TWIN-X Consortium Kicks Off Project in Munich

Munich, Germany | 21–22 September 2026

The TWIN-X consortium officially launched the project with a successful two-day Kick-Off Meeting hosted by the Technical University of Munich (TUM-Med) at Klinikum rechts der Isar. Partners from across Europe met in person and online to begin their four-year collaboration on developing multimodal digital twins for explainable precision medicine.

The meeting provided the opportunity for consortium members to meet, exchange ideas and align on the project's scientific vision, technical objectives and first implementation steps. Work package leaders presented their plans and priorities, covering topics ranging from structured clinical data and multimodal AI models to social determinants of health, digital twins, clinical validation, trustworthy AI, dissemination and ethics. The presentations sparked engaging discussions and helped identify key connections between the different work packages.

The consortium was also pleased to welcome members of the project's Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) and External Ethics Advisory Board (EAB), who joined the meeting online. Their early involvement provided valuable external perspectives and marked the beginning of a close collaboration that will help guide the project's scientific direction, ethical considerations and overall progress throughout its lifetime.

The second day focused on exploitation and project governance. During an interactive workshop, partners began refining the project's Key Exploitable Results (KERs) and identifying the stakeholders who will play an important role in bringing the project's outcomes into practice. The meeting also included the first General Assembly, where the consortium discussed governance, ethics, data management and the immediate priorities for the coming months. Parallel breakout sessions allowed partners to explore selected technical topics in greater detail.

Alongside the formal programme, the Kick-Off Meeting offered plenty of opportunities for networking and collaboration, helping to build the strong partnerships that will drive the project forward – and making use of the September meeting date a private goodbye lunch at Oktoberfest for those who had some time before their travels.

With a shared vision, clear priorities and an enthusiastic consortium, TWIN-X is now well underway. The project team looks forward to working together over the next four years to develop trustworthy multimodal digital twins that support the future of explainable precision medicine.

The consortium would like to thank Keno Bressem, Cosmin Bercea, Lisa Adams and the whole TUM-Med Team for hosting the meeting and all partners for their active participation.
